First up we have a little black dress, a ladder and a darling (and wildly hilarious) british mystery novel written by Canadian Alan Bradley. Alan Bradley makes excellent use of the English language in his novel "The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie". As Flavia uncovers the mystery of a murdered stranger, the reader uncovers the delightfulness of hilarious metaphors and allusions. Flavia's character is quick witted and engaging. She has an eccentric passion for chemistry and her nosiness and excitement keeps her one step ahead of the frustrated inspector, Her eager and sarcastic perspective is welcome and particularly enjoyable to adults who are severely affected by the boredom of routine. The story is set in the british countryside which is always appealing to North American readers. The intricacy of the plot and setting is surprising but the movement of the story is steady which means you won't be able to put it down. The book was recommended to me by my father and younger sister which shows that the writing style can be enjoyed by everyone.
What is on your summer reading list??
