September means returning to school across the country but it also means stocking up on pickles and jams from Mom's pantry and fresh vegetables from the garden. Evan and I planted rainbow carrots this year and were thrilled when we dug them up and they were beautiful bright colours. They were somehow mixed in with these odd dwarf carrots which are so cute but a little difficult to eat.

Moccasins
You can't go wrong here. Especially when you've just pulled a perfect tart out of the oven, are steeping lavender and have a large bowl of chocolate ganache just waiting for a sprinkling of fresh berries. The epitome of summer's end. We are characterizing this ending with moccasins for fall, and some classic pieces. Classic just like chocolate and berries.
This is the last week I have in Alberta. Soon you'll be seeing photos of the ocean again. It's a little bittersweet. Back to the beautiful coast but also back to a long distance relationship. Life happens and this is the last year of distance. Wish us strength.

The Book Project
I have always loved the idea of a book club. Two or more people reading the same words at the same time, forming different thoughts. So when I discovered my co-worker (now friend) Claire also had a blog and loved reading as much (maybe more) as I did, I knew we had to take advantage.
Here's the deal: Our club is called "Where the Bird and Fish Read". Let me explain. I live in Victoria, Claire lives in Edmonton. There is no physical space for us to meet, just as there is no physical space for birds and fish to interact (unless you're thinking ducks but I hate ducks so rule that one out). We are using the world wide web to support and connect our club as well as let you follow along. Or even participate!
We will be reading one book a month (alternating fiction and non-fiction). We will be posting 3-4 times a month on the books. {Claire has more details}
I'm so excited about this project and the challenge it will be. In the words of Arthur "life's more fun when you've got a library card". True dat Arthur.

Sunflowers
This is less about the clothes and more about that sunflower. And the weird look on my face.
Actually, it's not about either of those things. We met with our wedding photographers tonight and are so excited for August 17, 2013. First of all I wanted to take everything in their house home with me. Second of all they were the sweetest people in the world. And in almost exactly one year, I will have beautiful photos to share with you.

Autumn's Here
I jumped on the bandwagon. The autumn bandwagon that is. But let's be honest. It is autumn. Alberta is getting colder. The mornings are chilly. I turn the heat up in my truck on the way to work. The sun is just barely drifting over the horizon at 7 AM. The fields are turning a soft golden colour.
This song is perfect(ly depressing) for those chilly days. "So find a sweater and you'll be better" is the perfect line. It describes what I love most about autumn fashion. Cardigans and cute sweaters. Warm things.
Pack up your school bags kids. Wear your favourite jeans every day (as I am doing). And pull out your plaid.

Late Night Experiments
I am experimenting. Late at night. As I become more interested in blogging, I become more interested in graphic design and photography. Notice my labelling on the first photo. That is my first attempt at labelling. It's quite easy and with practice I'm sure it will look less elementary.
With all this experimenting with graphics, my outfits have turned to simplicity and classic shapes. I hope skinny jeans never go out of style.
Friday
prairies.
Evan and I were recently in Banff and as we were driving away from my house to get onto the highway, we passed the sun coming up on this beautiful field. It was as breathtaking as the mountains.

Dear Friends:
It's been too long. So long that I had well over a hundred unread blog posts in my blog feed. This is both sad and uncommon. Fortunately I've been able to somewhat catch up with all of you.
My excuse? Business. and Busy-ness. I've been so busy living life that I haven't had time to sit down and write about it. But it's been good to be away for a bit. I've been able to think.
And I think my blog is growing up. I love how a creative project like this can move and shape itself and mature. I love how it helps you discover new passions and leads you to other inspiring spaces.
I love blogging because of the interactions you can make with other bloggers to enhance your own creative space. I have enjoyed cultivating my favourite blogs, organizing them and taking the time to appreciate each post.
I love this hobby.
